W. Orange-Chess Mates Rescheduled

The 5th round match between West Orange and Chess Mates will be played at the WOCC on Tuesday, June 12th.

Kortchnois-Newark, from round 7, is still TBA.  

West Orange Beats Newark-McD

On May 1st, West Orange defeated Newark-McDonald's 2.5-1.5. Lineups and game results have not been reported.

Updates Delayed

An update of the standings and other pages will be delayed until the Newark-West Orange results and a ruling on the ECC-Staten Island debacle is received.

May 3rd Results

In the May 3rd matches at Kenilworth:

The Karpovs defeated Chess Mates 3-1, Hamilton beat the Kortchnois 3-1 and the DOCA Knights slammed Summit 3.5-0.5.

Staten Island Withdraws

The ECC-Staten Island match will not be played tonight. Staten Island has withdrawn from the Garden State League because of the match's date and venue switch.

Next month's Essex County College-Staten Island match has been re-scheduled. It will be played on Tuesday, May 1st in West Orange.

Last Night's Scores

Last night, Summit defeated Essex County College 3-1 and the DOCA Knights beat West Orange by the same count.

Both winners swept on the first 3 boards & lost on board 4.

Kortchnois vs. Newark Postponed

Last night's scheduled match between the Kenilworth Kortchnois and Newark-McDonald's was postponed at the former's request.

ECC & Staten Island Awarded Forfeit Wins

Essex County College has been awarded a 4-0 forfeit win over Chess Mates & Staten Island has been tentatively awarded a 3-0 forfeit win over Newark-McDonald's.


On March 23rd, Chess Mates failed to field a team vs. ECC and Newark has apparently made no effort to re-schedule vs. S.I.

The matches were originally scheduled to be played on December 6th, in round 2.

Hamilton-Karpovs Rescheduled For 5/31

The Kenilworth Karpovs-Hamilton match originally scheduled for April will be played at the Kenilworth Chess Club on May 31st. Hamilton will be the home team.

Summit & Hamilton Tie

Glen Hart defeated John Chladnicek in the final game to give Summit a 2-2 tie with Hamilton, on Thursday night.

NM Dragan Milovanovic had staked Hamilton to a 1-0 lead, with a victory vs. Donnally Miller, but Don Varneckas and I drew with Black against 2 of last year's board-prize winners (Ed Sytnik and Charles Miller) to keep the match close.

Staten Island-DOCA Scheduled

The June match between Staten Island and the DOCA Knights will be played on June 7th, at Chess Mates in Rahway. The starting time is 7:30 p.m.
