Staten Island-DOCA Scheduled

The June match between Staten Island and the DOCA Knights will be played on June 7th, at Chess Mates in Rahway. The starting time is 7:30 p.m.

Newark-McDonalds Edges DOCA Knights

Newark-McDonald's edged the DOCA Knights last night 2.5-1.5.

Lev Zilbermintz and Nathan Napper tallied full points for Newark, which clinched victory when Pierre Damis drew much higher-rated Aravind Kumar.

ECC Forfeits To West Orange

Last night, West Orange defeated Essex County College 4-0, by forfeit.

In GSCL action last night... Hamilton defeated Staten Island 3-1, the Karpovs edged the Kortchnois 2.5-1.5 and Summit was a 4-0 forfeit winner over Chess Mates.

Newark-DOCA Rescheduled

The upcoming match between Newark-McDonald's and the DOCA Knights has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 15th, 8:15 p.m., at Kenilworth.

Hamilton-Karpovs To Be Rescheduled

The Hamilton-Kenilworth Karpovs match scheduled for April 12th will be rescheduled. The new date is to be announced.

Staten Island 3 Kortchnois 1

Last night at Kenilworth, Staten Island defeated the Korchnois 3-1. Ed Selling and Ed McCormack had wins on the middle boards.

Karpovs & DOCA Knights Sweep

On February 7th, the Karpovs swept Newark-McDonald's 4-0 and the DOCA Knights defeated Essex County College by the same count.

Summit-Hamilton Postponed

The Summit-Hamilton match, scheduled for February 16th, was postponed. It has been rescheduled to March 22nd.

West Orange-Chess Mates Postponed

The West Orange-Chess Mates match, scheduled for February 2nd, was postponed.

DOCA Knights Defeat Chess Mates

On Tuesday night in Branchburg, the DOCA Knights defeated Chess Mates 3-1.

Marvin Shumowitz, Aleksey Vishnyakov and Doug Pecota won on boards 2, 3 and 4.

This Week's Results & News

In 4th round action this week... Hamilton and West Orange played to 2-2 tie. Newark-McDonalds won by forfeit over Essex County College 1-0 and the Kenilworth Karpovs defeated Staten Island 2.5-1.5.

It was subsequently learned, via Lev Zilbermintz, that ECC "cannot play this semester, due to schoolwork and people being busy". However, Lev later said he was trying to reform the team and hoped it could continue.

To quote GSCL President John Hagerty: Essex County College and Newark's "participation in this group will have to be seriously examined."
